Zuppa Toscana

4 Nov

We’ve been eating out so much lately that I have been craving some good home cookin’.  It was a particularly gray and blustery day out so it was perfect for soup!  I looove the zuppa toscana from Olive Garden but decided not to go for takeout because I wanted to make it a little bit healthier.  I found this recipe here and then added some of my own modifications.

Sliced baby red potatoes, kale and chopped yellow onions

browning the sausage and bacon in my dutch oven

add everything in

add some fresh cracked pepper and mmmmmmmm yum!

Some of the modifications I made to suit my taste were:
*use hot italian chicken sausage instead of regular italian sausage
*use turkey bacon instead of regular bacon
*use baby red potatoes with skin on
*use chicken broth instead of water and bouillon cubes
This is a pretty easy recipe that will definitely impress your tummy!

On my fall/winter shopping list this year is a camel colored coat.  The color goes with pretty much anything and is a nice break from the black and grays of the season. Here are a few that I would love to get my hands on.

Wilfred Cashmere Cocoon Coat @ Aritzia

Chalayan Scarfneck Blouson Jacket @ SSense

Double Breasted Coat @ Victoria’s Secret

Maybe I’ll be able to find one that is a combination of all 3 styles.

Today I am feeling a little grandma/grandpa-ish.

sweater (Forever21)
peter pan blouse (Free People)
jeggings (Forever21)
boots (Steve Madden)
I love the elbow patches on the grandpa sweater and the collar on my blouse.  They are such fun little details.

A tweed blazer somehow always makes me feel a little more scholarly.  Here is one of my transition outfits for this season.  The tights gave me a little bit of warmth but the weather wasn’t too cool yet that shorts were out of the question and the scarf gave the outfit a splash of color since I’m not quite ready to let go of summer…

Blazer & Shirt (Talula@Aritzia)
Shorts (Forever21)
Wedge Booties (Forever21)
Scarf (Emilio Pucci)

Happy Friday everyone!

This past weekend J promised to take me to Leavenworth so we invited another couple to come with us.  Leavenworth is a little Bavarian themed village in Washington but my main reason for this trip was to go to a mexican restaurant there plus, the beautiful scenery on the way makes for a very scenic drive.

I didn’t take a photo of the restaurant but if you are ever in Leavenworth it is definitely worth a try.  The place is called Los Camperos and I order the Camerones al Mojo de Ajo (prawns and mushrooms sauteed in a spiced butter garlic sauce with rice and beans).  Delicious!

I did however spend all day eating and I loved every moment of it.

cute bakery

only a mini gingerbread cookie for me please (i had already eaten mexican food, gelato and some samples from the cured meat shop)

mini outfit post from Leavenworth : )
Sweater  (TNA@Aritzia)
Tank (H&M)
Shorts, Knee High Socks (Forever21)
Boots (Hunters @ Zappos)

and of course we couldn’t leave without having a beer and bratwurst in the beer garden.

Leavenworth is a year round destination and only about 2 hours away from Seattle.  There are wineries, orchards and always a festival or two happening.  If you decide to make the trip out there…go on an empty stomach because you will definitely be stuffed by the time you leave.

Wedges + Booties = Hot Fall Shoes

29 Sep

I love the idea of wedge booties!  They have the sophistication of booties but with the comfort of wedges.  I fell in love with a pair I saw at Forever21 in Las Vegas and was very disappointed when I found out they did not have my size in stock.  Well, every day since I’ve been back from my trip I’d check the Forever21 site to see if my shoes will ever become available.  I guess my persistence paid off because they are!!!  I got so excited I ordered both the grey and the black and at around $25 a pair, how could I not?  Here are pics of the booties and also some others that are worth taking a look at.

I am now eagerly waiting the arrival of these booties and making a list of all the cute outfits I’ll wear them with!

The air is getting crisper so my hubby decided to take me on a little shopping spree for some fresh fall pieces.  This cardigan is one of the items we picked up at Aritzia.  It’s sooo warm and cozy.

Cardigan (Talula@Aritzia)
Floral Leggings also worn here (Talula@Aritzia)
Black Tunic/Dress (Wilfred@Aritzia)
Booties, also worn here (Report@Nordstrom)
Belt (Forever21)

I love that I can add new life to my old clothes by adding just one new item.  Looking forward to wearing the other stuff we picked up! : )
