Flutter

31 Aug

One of my favorite people : )

Dress- Dancing in the Dark Dress (Mod Cloth)
Drink of choice- Prosseco
I am glad I got to finally take this dress out of the closet and put it to use.  Flutter sleeves add a whimsical touch and I like the color block of the dress and the length is just right for a shorty like me.

Solitude

18 Aug

When I was younger I loved being surrounded by crowds and people and just about anything.  As I get older, I have learned to love being alone.  On nights when J has basketball and I have nothing to do I enjoy sitting in silence with nothing but a book and perhaps a glass of vino.

“I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude.”
Henry David Thoreau
One day when we’re back in a house with a big yard I’d like to build a little cottage like this one in the back.  It will be a whimsical and peaceful place I can go to write and surround myself in solitude.  Until that day comes I will keep on dreaming.
Where do you like to go to be alone?

Anna

Material Girl

17 Aug

The material girl is at it again!  This time she collaborated with daughter Lourdes and together they have come up with a new clothing line, The Material Girl Collection.  The line is sweet, girly and edgey all at the same time!  And the cherry on top, Taylor Momsen (Little J from Gossip Girl) is the face of this new ad campaign!  I think Taylor is a perfect pick.

Madonna & Lourdes

The looks are available at Macy’s now just in time for back to school shopping!!  Or for those of us that aren’t in school just shopping for cute clothes in general!  If you like these looks you can check out more at Material World blog.

Sunny Weekend

13 Aug

Happy Friday.

I think this weekend is going to be the warmest we’ve had all summer.  Hopefully I will make it outside for some fun in the sun.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Beach-ey Waves

12 Aug

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to create beach-ey waves so here goes!

If you have hair longer than your shoulders you’ll probably need at least a 1″ curling iron.

Beach in a bottle is always good to have.  It helps give your hair the “I’ve been hanging out at the beach all day” texture that will definitely help, especially if you have really straight or fine hair.  I have found that this one by Alterna works great.

1. Start with dry hair.

2.  For those of you that have really straight hair I would clip up most of the hair and start at the bottom.  Girls that already have somewhat curly or wavy hair can start midway or anywhere on the head.  Use at least 2″ sections I would say…depends on how loose you want the curls/waves (the bigger the section the less curly it is, with this look you would want more of a wave vs. curl).

3.  Start midway along the section and wrap it around the iron.  Curl it vertically like you would if you were doing spiral curls but leave out the ends.  Repeat this step over until you’ve done everything.  Girls that already have curly or wavy hair don’t have to section the whole head and curl every single hair.  I would leave out some natural sections as this would give it a more relaxed “beachy” look.

4.  Once you are done curling it should look somewhat like this (loose curls).

5.  Break up the curls with your fingers.

6.  Twist or braid your bangs out of the way if you like and voila!  Beach time!
(At this point you can apply some pomade or wax on your fingertips and break it through the curls for some definition on certain pieces if you like or more beach spray.  This look is easy to do because you don’t need it to be perfect, the less perfect it is the better.)
Hopefully this post helps and you have a better understanding of how to get beach-ey waves.  If you have any further questions feel free to email me!  Now, get out there and hit the surf!

Talula FW 2010

9 Aug

Although we’re approaching mid-August soon the weather here in Seattle is closer to the fall.  Doesn’t feel like we’ve had much of a summer this year but Talula’s new 2010 Fall/Winter look book has got me excited for the crisp, cool autumn days and nights!  Here are a few of my favorite looks from this collection.

Love the updated school girl looks. (Lil’ J would be so proud)

Little accessories like the bowtie and bracelet enhance the outfit.

The tulle ballerina skirt has got my heart skipping a beat!  That will be a definite purchase.
Mittens=sooooo cute!
Florals and oversized cardigans are still in style.
LBD-a staple in every girl’s closet.  Bonus if its a bodycon, has sculpted shoulders or textured.
All my favorite things-boyfriend blazers, florals and stripes.

Bold lips-a fall beauty must have.

If you love the collection as much as I do run out to your nearest Aritzia and start your fall wardrobe early!
XO,
Anna

White Rabbit

6 Aug

I don’t exactly know why but every time I put on this vest I feel like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.  I think maybe it’s because I feel the need to have a pocket watch when wearing it.  I was feeling gray yesterday although the weather was anything but!  I had fun wearing this outfit and surprisingly got lots of compliments from random ladies at the mall.

My purchase from the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale!
Dress, Vest (Forever21)
Booties (Report @ Nordstrom)
